Embarrassment?

September 29, 2006 By Michele 5 Comments

“My husband and I were so embarrassed when we got caught by the kids doing…….”

So far we’ve been lucky. We’ve been thisclose to getting caught by the kids doing various and sundry naughty things, but we haven’t been caught yet. So – I’m trying to think into the future. My husband doesn’t seem to get embarrassed by anything. The only times I’ve seen him get embarrassed are in response to compliments. Any other time? He’ll go out of his way to make an ass out of himself in an effort to embarrass me.

No, in the future it’ll be me that gets embarrassed. And I can just picture it. We’re doing our thing, in our room. One of the boys walks in, we dive for covers. The kid asks for juice. And Poe will turn, look at me, and say, “Yeah honey. Why don’t you get him some juice! Sheesh!” knowing full well I’m stark naked.

Yeah. That day’s coming.

Smells

September 26, 2006 By Michele 7 Comments

As humans we are lucky enough to have senses; five glorious ones to be exact. Today though I want to hear all about the wonderful sense of smell. What are some of your favorite smells and is there a reason attached to why you like them so much? And in a two parter, what smells can’t you stand and why? (try not to pick the obvious ones we all can agree upon here, k?)

I really love the scent of citrus – it makes me think of clean, crisp, tangy things. Apple too for the same reason. Cookie smells, that cinamony sugary smell, make me feel warm and fuzzy. Same with coffee.

As for the smells I don’t really like… Well – the one that people probably don’t get is flowers. There are some that I like (scent wise – love to look at all of them) although the only one I know the name of is honeysuckle. Although that’s more like a plant. But the scent of roses, if too heavy, and carnations reminds me of funerals. And gardenias remind me of a really terribly mean piano teacher I once had who always had a bowl of fresh gardenias on the piano. Good Lord, she used to poke my hands with the sharp end of a pencil if I got it wrong. *shudder* HATE the scent of cooked broccoli (I eat it though, the taste is good to me). HATE the scent of cooked brussel sprouts – won’t go near them and think they’re a waste of good vegetable space. And the last one – ugh – liver and onions cooking. And fish is alright when cooking, but then the smell just LINGERS FOREVER.

It’s funny how scents trigger memories. For example – I know that when mom dies, Estee Lauder’s Youth Dew will make me think she’s in the room. Old Spice for dad. Funny. I have times though, where I don’t even know the association, but the scent will send me back in time.

a little giggle

So this portion of Julie’s entry at a little pregnant made me laugh – okay well snort – this morning.

This morning as I was leaving the hospital’s parking garage I handed my ticket to the man in the booth, who leaned out of his window to speak to me face to face. “What would you say,” he asked, “if your ex-wife called you at 7:15 this morning to ask you to go out to dinner tomorrow night?”

“‘Call back at a decent hour’?” I suggested. (He looked a little frail, so I didn’t tack on the gratuitous “…you faithless whore” that immediately sprang to mind, for fear of giving him a stroke. Although we were right at the hospital…)

He doesn’t know why his ex-wife wants to see him. I asked him if he was going to go. “‘Course I am,” he said, as if the question were patently silly. “What’s she going to do to me that 100,000 North Vietnamese didn’t already try?”

Jumping…

Okay, so I’m gonna try this weight thing. Again. This is the 3,569,852.5th time.

I’ve joined up with the Deep End of the Pool. They’ve extended the deadline to join to September 30th, so it’s not too late. No, there’s no membership fee – HOWEVER – you do have to pay up $5 to the pool if you maintain or gain at weigh in each week. That money will be handed to a winner (or two) at the end (in December). Join. Please. Do your health (and knees and back) a favor and swim with the rest of us as we get healthy.
