When I first started journaling online in about 1994-1995 (and no, my archives don’t go back that far… I lost about 5 years worth in a great big computer crash that taught me the wisdom of the words “back up”) advertising in my journal would have been forbotten. I’ve changed my mind about that. I see no problem with targeted ads and affiliation links now. So – no comments about selling out, please. Here are my own personal guidelines for advertising on my site…
They must be somehow related to me – not to my site – to me. My interests, or insights, or something I use.
I must like it.
I must use it.
I must do a review of the product or service and how it pertains to my life.
So – if I make a little money to pay for my hosting and MT and all that? So be it! I’ve created a place here for myself, and I intend to use it.
Dear Webmaster,
I have a client who wishes to purchase advertising on your site. Can you provide me with your advertising rates? My client is also interested in paying you a monthly rate to host some related articles or other content on your site. This would be unique, quality articles or essays custom-written for your site by a professional writer in accordance your editorial guidelines. Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in. Thanks in advance for your time.
