Cooling down

September 15, 2006 By Michele 4 Comments

I’m about to jinx myself. I love fall because it brings the cooler weather. Living in Southern California can be brutal in the summer. 112 and no central air? Yeah. Great. Makes me want to smack people when they rave about the weather. I want to point out the multiple elderly deaths due to the heat. I want to point out the blown tires and overheated cars causing problems on the freeways. I want to tell them about warnings, and how when the UV index is too high and we’re forced, and our kids are forced to stay inside. Let’s not even talk about fire season.

But fall. I love fall. The weather might get pretty warm during the day, and will through October, but the mornings and evenings are a blessed blessed relief. I know that I might be changing my tune come February, but still. I can start to wear the clothes I’m comfortable in without roasting myself. I can send Joseph to school to run around without worrying that heal overheat himself – or an all over coating thick with sunscreen. He’s got very very fair, highly sensitive skin – and getting the teachers to realize that almost take a sunburn under their watch.

I love the cooling. I love it. It’s so hard to see the changes of the seasons here… But for the cooling.

Growing up in So.Cal, I know what you mean. We still have family in Corona, and Costa Mesa, and they were so miserable this summer. Arizona’s HOT, but it’s expected here. It’s been in the mid-90s this past week, so I’m all for the lower temps. too!

We don’t have that kind of heat here in VA, but hearing your story makes me happy for fall to come to you….
