But aside from that, she's still completely normal

The Block

July 7, 2008 By Michele Leave a Comment

I have writer’s block.

There.  I said it.

Nothing dramatic.  I just can’t think of a thing to say.  Prep is underway for BlogHer.  There will be a haircut involved, and a manicure and pedicure – since I can’t seem to do those things without an excuse.  Children are being raised, parents coddled, marriages stroked.  And just…  Life.

Nothing to write home about.  Heh.  And I’m drained.  Procrastinating on things that should be taken care of – I just pretend aren’t there.  Perhaps an unintentional summer break?  I don’t know.  All I know is, I’m quiet right now.

How I got my online handle

May 20, 2008 By Michele Leave a Comment

I was recently asked how I got my handle, “Sparksfley.”

Sometimes you see me as Michele – and other times Sparks or Sparksfley.

It’s really quite simple.  I had canceled my aol account, and then decided to create a new one.  I got sparksfley from Sparks – a name my husband was calling me due to my working as an electrical assistant and Butterfly which my husband also called me.  I decided to combine the two into Sparksfly – but someone already had that one.  So, I added the “e” and became sparksfley.  For the rest of my online handles and email and such, it was just easier to keep the same one so I didn’t have to remember them all.

I’m now known as Sparksfley across the web.

A meme? For me?

May 5, 2008 By Michele 1 Comment

In all the years I’ve been doing this, I’ve never been tagged for a meme.  Can you believe it?

However – I’ve been tagged.  By Awalkabout.

Five Things Found in My Bag:

  1. Wallet
  2. Sunglass case
  3. Work ID
  4. Cell phone
  5. Bag with assorted sundries such as lip balm.  You know, and a spare tampon.  And maybe some kleenex.

Five Favorite Things in Your Room:

I’m assuming my bedroom?

  1. The best photo I’ve ever taken of my husband, framed.
  2. The poem he wrote and framed for our 10th anniversary.
  3. My hope chest – which holds things like the boys baby blankets and such.  Sentimental stuff, and the chest itself is beautiful.
  4. Betsy (my pink laptop.  She deserves a name.  Shhhhh)
  5. My mother’s bedroom furniture.  Sounds strange, I know, but when we moved, she didn’t have room for it, and we did.  I don’t know that they always had it, but they certainly had it for as long as I was around, and I love that I have my mother’s things furnishing my home.

Five Things You Have Always Wanted to Do:

  1. Actually be my goal weight.
  2. Actually be a yoga devotee.  I just can’t seem to get into it.  Maybe I’m doing it wrong.
  3. Be an actress.
  4. Be a stay at home mom.
  5. Write a book.  Not necessarily a novel.

Five Things You are Currently Into:

  1. World of Warcraft
  2. Bible Study (although some would say they are exclusive, they are not.)
  3. Home renovation and decor
  4. Blogging
  5. Coming home plans (debt reduction, at home job search, etc.)

Five people I’d like to tag (let me know if you do): Not sure any of them read me back (well – except for Sylvie), or have any interest in memeing…  But, Domestic Felicity, Home Sanctuary, The Sparrow’s Nest, and Sylvie’s Place.

I get to see crack

April 14, 2008 By Michele 1 Comment

So.  Saturday I spackled Joseph’s room, and yesterday, we sanded down, all in prep for painting perhaps next weekend.  Part one of our House Beautiful project.

We also did laundry and dishes.

Poe and I were covered in spackle dust from head to toe.  Poe now knows what I’ll look like when I’m fully gray.

Go to take a shower as one is wont to do when covered in dust, when lo and behold – no hot water.

A side note – my parents live next door, and they own this house too.  In other words, my parents are our landlords.  Not perfect – as my mother says, “We just know too much about each other” but I’m here if they need me which they do more and more now that they’re elderly, and they get to be a part of the kids’ every day lives.  BUT – they are on vacation for the next week.  That means my father, manly man of everything handy, is gone.  My husband, God love him, is not very handy.

We thought that maybe since we’d done so much laundry and the dishes in a short amount of time, that we just ran out of hot water.  We wait a few hours.  Still no hot water.  Poe went out and turned off the hot water heater, and back on.  Wait a few hours.  Still no hot water.  He took the kids to my parents house to take baths.  This morning?  Still no hot water.

Sigh.

While if it were JUST showers, we could just go next door.  But with a family of four – we can’t wait a week for my handy dad to get home.  I have to call a plumber.  Am NOT looking forward to this.  Also – must call in at work, and my boss will NOT be happy about it.  And when dad gets back he will NOT be happy about it.

Dude.  I just want hot water.
