I personally would have laid hands on the woman. But, being the better woman than I, here’s Faith Hill’s response on camera to the woman who grabbed for her husband, Tim McGraw’s privates.
School Relents, Give Out Diplomas
GALESBURG, Ill. (June 7) – Five students will get the diplomas they were denied when cheers erupted for them at a high school graduation, and school officials said Wednesday they would review a get-tough decorum policy.
OK, picture this if you could… This isn’t necessarilly the situation here, I’m just painting you a picture.
You’re 17 or 18. Your graduating high school. It’s been a rough 4 years, but you’re graduating, baby! Perhaps, you’re the first person in your family to graduate high school. Perhaps, you overcame serious obstacles. Perhaps, you’ve been accepted to the Ivy League, and this is that first initial wonderful step. You walk across the stage, and your family, somewhere out there in the audience, is yelling and clapping and cheering for you. You’re slightly embarrassed, ’cause like, geeeeeez moooooom, but at the same time you’re please as punch for the attention, and the acknowledgment of your accomplishment – ’cause you did it, man!
As you make your way across the stage, put your right hand out to handshake, and your left for your diploma, and the school official says, “No. I’m sorry, but you’ve violated our decorum policy. Please take your seat.”
You walk back to your seat crushed, humiliated, confused, and now wondering if you’ve even officially graduated.
Something like this happened to five students at Galesburg High School.
The school had implemented a decorum policy in order to make their graduation ceremonies, well, more decorous. And withheld their diplomas because of their families’ cheering.
Utterly, utterly ridiculous.
After several meetings with school officials, and finally getting a lawyer involved, these kids got their diplomas. They had officially graduated – that wasn’t the thing – but they earned those diplomas and wanted them. As well they should.
The diplomas were withheld because the school said cheering violated a school policy aimed at restoring graduation decorum. The students still were considered graduates on paper, but they didn’t have a diploma.
Basically the lawyer got the Board of Education in on it, who said they couldn’t support the school’s position, because the students cannot control the actions of others, merely their own behavior.
Damn straight.
They finally were able to pick up their diplomas from the school secretary. The principal couldn’t be bothered.
Decorum, indeed.
Pathetic
I’m not usually a sports fan. But Poe came home with this story. I’m disgusted.
First, this happened:
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock was drunk and talking on his cell phone at the time of his fatal accident, and marijuana was found in the sport utility vehicle he was driving.
Basically, he hit a tow truck, which was there to aid a previous accident victim. So – Here’s this terribly tragic accident. I’m sorry for the guy, and his family. He’s dead, and that’s a terrible thing. But a reasonable person could argue that he brought it onto himself.
A) He was drunk, and an alcohol level of almost twice the legal limit.
B) Possibly high… There was a loaded pipe in the car. The toxicology reports are pending.
C) Speeding.
D) Talking on his cell phone. Everyone knows the potential for distraction there. By the way – He was talking to a chick making plans to go to another bar to meet her there.
Then this:
The father of Josh Hancock filed suit Thursday, claiming a restaurant provided drinks to the St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher even though he was intoxicated prior to the crash that killed him. The suit… does not specify damages. Mike Shannon’s Restaurant, owned by the longtime Cardinals broadcaster who starred on three World Series teams in the 1960s, is a defendant in the case along with Shannon’s daughter, Patricia Shannon Van Matre, the restaurant manager… Other defendants include Eddie’s Towing, the company whose flatbed tow truck was struck by Hancock’s sport utility vehicle in the early hours of April 29; tow truck driver Jacob Edward Hargrove; and Justin Tolar, the driver whose stalled car on Interstate 64 was being assisted by Hargrove.
So, as stated above, I’m sorry for Mr. Hancock’s loss. I can’t imagine losing one of my boys. But… To sue:
A) The restaurant owner
B) The restaurant’s manager (who happens to be the owner’s daughter)
C) The dude who had a prior accident (he stalled when he spun out of control when someone cut him off)
D) The tow truck driver for taking too long
That’s just so wrong. Yes, there was a tragic chain of events. And it’s terrible that he’s dead as a result.
But when are we, as parents, going to start letting our children take responsibility for their actions? When do we stop blaming everyone else for their failures? This man was an adult. He made poor chioices that led to his death. He should never have been drunk behind the wheel. And yet you sue the poor sap who simply had a car accident prior to your son?
I know he’s grieving. I understand that, and as a parent feel so much sadness for him. But don’t ruin so many people’s lives because you can’t face that your son screwed himself over.

Rev. Jerry Falwell Dies At 73
LYNCHBURG, Va. — A Liberty University executive said the Rev. Jerry Falwell has died.
Falwell, 73, had been hospitalized earlier Tuesday in “gravely serious” condition after being found unconscious in his office Tuesday.
Love him. Hate him. Doesn’t matter. It’s the end of an interesting era.
Unbelievable
This is crazy. This man is in the road for two minutes before anyone helps. Now – I’ve passed many many a fender bender. I was thinking to myself, in this case, what would I do?
My gut reaction says that I would have stopped behing him – less chance of him getting hit again – put my hazards on, then called 911 on my way to see if he was ok.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. No word, however, on whether or not more immediate action would have made a difference.
What a sad way to die. Please be a better person than these other motorists.
